shabby chic birthday

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MADELYN!~

It's Monday already.. a little sad. The weekend was really fun; mostly because we celebrated Maddy's 2nd birthday.  We did most of the work on Friday; baking, cooking, cleaning, setting up... and luckily on Saturday we really didn't have to do much at all. In fact we visited my sister in law and soon to be brother in law in the morning, when typically I would be decorating a cake and scrambling to get other things done. We got home around 12:15 and once we got the kids to bed I just finished picking up, mopped the kitchen floor, and then put my hair in rollers and sat down on the couch!

  10. I also found you via TomKat. What a beautiful party! My daughter's 5th birthday is coming up soon, and I've so wanted to put a number on top of her cake, but hadn't really figured out the best way to do it. Did I understand it right that you ordered that or did you make it? I would really love to know how you made the cake bunting. It's one of the cutest ones I've seen! Blessings!

  11. I also found you via TomKat! I love your daughter's party and with my daughter's second birthday coming this August I would love to use it as an inspiration. I was wondering where did you order the straws and how did you do the design for the mason jars? Thanks.

Okay last question, where did you find the base for your cupcake stands.

    Thanks. Megan

  15. oh wow amazing...what seller on etsy did you get the #2 suckers from?? And the pictures hanging on that string ..did you need to put something to make it heavy?

  16. im working on a post to explain some of the things I did... i had a bunch of comments on here before blogger had issues and now they're all erased. I purchased the suckers from http://www.etsy.com/listing/70013031/3-fancy-filigree-number-hard-candy

I used baby clothes-line clips from Joannes...not sure I understand what you mean about something to make it heavy?

  17. hi, it was really pretty what you made for your daughters birthday. i read a few of your post and i envy you for having to stay at home and take care of your kids. I am a working mother of two and I hardly find time to play monopoly with my eldest. I might try the 15 minutes play and 15 minutes housework, hope it will work for me.

  18. Love your birthday party! Found you on TomKat! How did you make your birthday banner for the cake?

  19. I also found you from TomKat. Where did you get your table cloth? And the plates you served cake on, are they just some vintage plates you've collected? As for the cakepop sticks. What size are they? 4" or 6"?

You are a fabulous, inspired artist. Thank you so much for sharing with us that special day of your daughters. Good work!

  20. hi there! I wrote a post about the details of the party: http://thehvidstens.blogspot.com/2011/05/questions-answered.html

The table cloth was my mother in laws, but it was just a basic martha stewart pink table cloth. I have one in white, and they are really nice. I know I used to get them at Kmart when she was featured there.

The plates were a collection, yes! I got them at an antique store and they were really cheap. They are perfect for when I have banana bread and a muffin.

The cake pops were smaller, i would say around the 3-4" You don't want them too big because they slide off the sticks when dipping (because of being heavy and also because the candy melts are so hot). I listed a site where I watched a tutorial on how to make them in the above link. Hope that helps!

Also, since most of the comments got erased after blogger shut down, i don't see them restored, so if your question didn't get answered, just re-ask it!

  22. What kind of fabric did you use for the ruffled pink garland on the table? It's gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hmm, the fabric for the ruffle was kind of like a fleece type fabric. I am not good with describing fabrics but it definitely had texture, like i said, more fleecy than the cotton type fabric I used for the banner. Hope that helps!
