Homeschool, Week 9

In our home-school this week....I've got to somehow stop the glorification of being busy. Who was I kidding that life would slow down after harvest? Now we've got church activities, bible studies, dance....and soon that only leaves one or two open nights a week. Sometimes less.  That is one reason we decided to stop and take our two oldest to Disney land!! We told them Friday night :)
This week was the letter "I". I also started Maddy on some reading. She is doing GREAT! She is starting to blend letters. Just two for now, such as "at" "ag" "ap". This week we will add another letter for a three-letter word. Kate is reading more and more. They are doing so well. I am so very proud of them.

Playdough Cupcakes with real toppings
Halloween activities, dance, birthday parties... a little bit of everything. It's been a really good week. Challenging, but still really good. It seems like we've gone through a lot of hoops and we've made it through it.

Things I'm working on....
Battling Satan! Trying to overcome certain "idols" in my life and really taking my thoughts captive..... and replacing them with truth. Very challenging, but worth it. God has been so faithful to instruct all I need each day, and it's up to me to apply and be a "doer" of the word! Very encouraging this week.

My favorite thing this week was....
spending extra time with peter, sacrificing my own things to see his joy in whatever we did together. I am so grateful I could be encouraging to him.

Homeschool, Week 5

In our home-school this week....
We worked on the letter E, started a new chapter book, did LOTS of crafts, learning about Moses, Kate is really starting to take off in reading(!!) Maddy is really coming along in letter recognition and writing.... I am just so impressed and proud of my girls!

Places we're going, people we're seeing...
We've had a couple play dates; I remember the week before feeling so very discouraged in my time with friends (which really is hardly any time) and we've had a couple opportunities to spend time with friends this week, so I chose to do just that! We finished school at another time-- that is the beauty of homeschooling. We took an hour and a half off one afternoon to visit with a couple of moms and their kids, and finished later.  It was perfect.  We went to dance again, and baked a lot this weekend.

My favorite thing this week was....
Spending extra time with Maddy on her letters, playing Alphabet bingo with the kids, and reading with Ella.

Things I'm working on....
Baby steps again! Focussing on "the now" and not the "whoa, I've got a long road ahead". It is so easy for me to be discouraged on how much work I want God to fix on me, - I just need to take baby steps and when I am feeling my selfishness rise, or my fleshly desires, I just need to stop and get through THIS moment.

Things I'm Cooking

pork chops with roasted onions and apples, super (super good)

pumpkin donuts

poptarts

cookies

candy corn pudding pops

I'm grateful for
encouraging ladies, fun times with the kids, healthy options that satisfy, times when I can exercise and feel really good about myself, our kids showing growth spiritually, coffee. pumpkins.

I'm praying for....
godly friendships, a new perspective, beets to go well, discipline in all things.

Homeschool Week 3

In our home-school this week....

We taught Maddy about the letter C.  "C" is a tricky letter.... though she is getting the hang of letter-sound recognition... she is pronouncing C as in "ssssssssss".  That's okay.  C is for Car!

Places we're going, people we're seeing...
We're going to dance now on Tuesdays.  I am happy for the girls, but it is a stressful time of year to go with beets coming up. It starts at 5 and gets done at 7:30, so it will be hard to have Ella along. Plus, we need to pack lunches and eat there, which is also hard. But they are super excited and that makes me so very happy. I am glad they have that opportunity.

My favorite thing this week was....
Doing the Car craft, and finishing the Box Car Children chapter book. I am kind of sad we have to move onto a new book!

Things I'm working on....
My weaknesses.... not being discouraged about it. Learning to take baby steps, but not only that, still trying to do my best so that others might see progress.   "Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies" - Mother Teresa.  "Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress." 1 Timothy 4:15

Things I'm Cooking
pork tenderloin panini with sweet potato and jelly!

one pot chicken and beans

Zucchini pizza
I'm grateful for
my family... who never leave me. For photos and photography. Hoping I can spend more time on that in the upcoming months.

I'm praying for....
Relationships, how I can be encouraging, how I can serve more and be used, to grow in my marriage and to be gentle and loving to the kids each day. I am praying a lot lately that I am a good example and leader to my girls.  "Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity and dignity". Titus 2:7,  being intentional in all things.
